Look Back To Move Forward
Looking backward to move forward may not seem intuitive, but it can be highly productive when planning for a new school year. Looking back at the accomplishments, milestones, and even obstacles you previously tackled can help create a solid roadmap of where you want to go in the upcoming year.
How do you make this roadmap to success? We’ve got a few ideas!
Take Note of Things You Did Well
Were there certain projects, tests, or homework assignments you knocked out of the park? What about decisions you made concerning social, spiritual, or recreational activities at school that made a positive impact on those around you?
Be sure to take note of all the things you did well and want to replicate in the coming academic year. This will ensure you get started on the right foot.
Create a Strategy to Improve Upon Things That Challenged You
Tough subjects are good. The challenge presented by a hard subject can help you stretch and grow. Just like you have a favorite area of study, you most likely have a least favorite one as well.
If there was a subject that stumped you last year, start planning a strategy now of how you will improve upon that subject matter in the next year. Put your plan on paper and refer to it as you tackle your assignments for that class.
Be Encouraged By the Milestones You Achieved
You probably experienced some big milestones in your previous year of school. Carry the feeling of accomplishment and happiness that achieving such milestones brings and let it encourage you to reach toward new milestones in the year ahead.
Reflect On the Hand of God in Your Academic Journey
It’s always important to keep perspective. When you look back at all you accomplished, remember you didn’t accomplish that on your own. Do you see God’s hand throughout your academic journey?
Thank Him for guiding you through yet another year and ask for His blessing and help for future years ahead. Claim the promise that with Him, all things are possible.
